Does your life revolve around food, weight and battling to ignore hunger?
You are not alone.
Feeling stressed around food is almost inevitable if you are now a midlife woman. The narrative around us has always been thinner is better; the less of you there is, the better. Any weight loss is congratulated and applauded - which, of course, reinforces the restrictive eating which usually gave rise to the weight loss in the first place.
I am 100% guilty of sharing in this thinking. I am working hard to break the association in my head between being thinner and - well, what? I don’t seriously think that being thinner is more desirable than being kind, or working hard, or helping others, or supporting my children or having fun with my friends. And yet, it is so hard not to look at a photo of someone smaller than me and think “I really wish I looked like that”.
Take a moment to reflect on what really matters to you. Or to put it another way, if you imagine that you’re 90 and you look back over the course of your life, what do you want to see? Would you rather see a woman who lived a full, curious and colourful life or a woman who devoted her time, energy and headspace to a battle with food to the detriment of her dreams and ambitions?
This is a big question and it takes conscious effort and practise to break free from the shackles of diet culture and obsessive thoughts around what we should and shouldn’t be eating.
My food manifesto is this: eat to nourish yourself and add a bit of fun on the side. Nothing you enjoy eating needs to be on a list of banned substances. If you erect your eating scaffolding with regular + consistent + nourishing plates of food, you will have the energy + enthusisasm + motivation to live your precious life to the full.

Yes, we may need to show your gallbladder some love.
Yes, we may need to practise identifying hunger, fullness and satisfaction.
But, it can be done and I am here to walk alongside you and guide you through the sticky patches.
